Crop Vodka

The NYTimes Magazine (with Katie Holmes on the cover... blurg.) this week has an ad for Crop Vodka.
The vodka is USDA approved to be organic and is distilled and bottled in Minnesota. Organic Corn is used to fertilize the soil and the distilling process does not use and carbon treatment or charcol filtering.

Their website is at www.cropvodka.com

They have 3 flavors...

Tomato
Cucumber
Organic Artisanal

Drinkers out there should check this out... I guess you could consider the harmful chemicals you put into your body even when it's when you're getting plastered?

Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund

I stumbled today...
www.audreyhepburn.com popped up.

Toward the end of her life, Audrey Hepburn worked closely with UNICEF, AIDS foundation and various children's funds. It looks like she has also established her own... or someone has in her honor.

This bridges one of the most fashionable ladies of the 20th century and non-prof work... hot stuff!

Check it out...

Audrey Hepburn's Children's Fund

Also, there is the "Audrey Bag"

All the profits from the bags go to the Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund
Audrey's son Sean Hepburn Ferrer (also son of Mel Ferrer) signs each letter of authenticity.

The bags are quite pricey... but anyone who can afford one should, because it goes towards a good cause!
And of course they will be a strong fashion statement as well as a conversation starter.

Check out the page at
https://www.audreyhepburn.com/bagsubs/index.html

Audrey's sense of giving and style are truly meshed through her official web page and her family's continued work with fashion and charity.

Newman's Own

Paul Newman and his wife, along with friends and family developed this line of food (which is amazing) that would wholly benefit charities and camps for children. They have made over $250 Million over the past 26 years.

As most of you know, Paul Newman recently passed away due to cancer. He was a famous movie star... most notably Cool Hand Luke and Robert Redford's co-star in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

His face will live on both in movies and on the labels of his food.

The stuff is delicious and usually organic or vegan friendly... check the label.

Try it and check out their website for more info

Natalie Portman's Vegan Designer Shoes

My cousin Jeff made me aware of a company formed or co-formed by Natalie Portman.
Té Casan is a company which has designer shoes and handbags that was founded in 2006 and are all animal free products.

The shoes and bags are pricey but they are designer. They might be a cool alternative to a coach bag or something like that which use animal products.

Check it out at tecasan.com

Also-
A bad ass video of Natalie Portman... in case you aren't aware of her freaking-amazing-ness

Monthly Info

Here's a great site for all the ladayyssss.

mon.thly.info

I found it in Bust Magazine this summer and I am a member. It is free to join and it keeps track of your period in the old school method of calendar marking... but throw away the red pen that you'd draw the little dot or flower with... just fill in the info.

The site sends you reminders on various days and after several months starts to tell you where you are in your cycle, what things mean, when your next is and how long they typically last.

Hope this helps some sisters out! :)

Blog for blog

This is a small plug for my own stuff...

this post also appears in my other blog... hehe.

My Travel Channel Academy videos are now on youtube so CHECK THEM OUT!

This is the first video I made for the course.

Here is the second.... Click on the images to see the videos.

The people in the videos were amazingly cooperative and nice.

The people at the Travel Channel Academy were amazing too. I loved meeting everyone!

Wildlife Conservation Network

The Wildlife Conservation Network.

This foundation focuses on entreprenuership...

“Conservation Entrepreneurs”

WCN supports conservationists who demonstrate the spirit of entrepreneurship in launching innovative projects to protect endangered species. These “conservation entrepreneurs” are successful because they: Dare to try new strategies, create new ways to save endangered wildlife, empower local stakeholders, and maximize the value of every dollar invested in conservation.

I found out about this foundation due to a show on the Sundance Channel.

There is a show called Iconoclasts, it brings together two people who have done something to make themselves successful, but in two completely different ways. They come together and find common ground as well as their respect for each others' gifts.

Like I said in a previous post, I love the Rossellini family. Well, Thanks Isabella Rossellini... She mentioned her work with the network. Thought I'd pass it on.

www.wildlifeconservationnetwork.org

Their mission is to protect endangered species and preserving their natural habitats. Offering new and innovative ways for people to contribute.

Melaleuca

This company was brought to my attention by my Aunt Mare.
She is a loyal Melaleuca user and sales person.
Melaleuca is an organization that acts as a LARGE co-op.
It is for people, by people and is environmentally friendly and aware.
The company works to make safe products for people and their homes as well as replacing petroleum products with an oil found in the Melaleuca plant.

I have been using this stuff for a while, my parents had it at home. Now my roommates and I get it delivered to our house. It does save money for college students... gas, split costs, and it lasts for a long time. Be weary of the months that you don't NEED stuff. It can sometimes be an issue.

If you are interested in Melaleuca you can go to their website or contact me.
Also, here is my Aunt Mare's e-mail address if you would like to contact her... she has all the details!

Power Up Gambia

This organization was started by my cousin Jess' friend Kathryn Cunningham Hall.
Kathryn has worked incredibly hard to promote this cause. She has worked both in the states and in Africa to spread awareness, collect funding and promote change.

Their philosophy is

"We believe that grassroots efforts that stay connected to their projects for the long term are the most effective. We keep our operating budget small to maximize the impact of your donation. We believe in solar power and equity in medicine – and we volunteer our time to make the biggest impact that we can."

Kathryn was in the running for a contest sponsored by the kid's choice awards called " Dosomething.org "
Here is her video about Powerupgambia.org

(Click on image to see video)

There are many ways to help Kathryn's organization. You can be a solitary donor or get many people, schools, businesses or organizations involved.

Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann

I am a big fan of the Rossellini family.
Ingrid Bergman,
Roberto Rossellini,
Isabella Rossellini and most recently

Elettra Wiedemann Rossellini
.

Elettra is a model who is also a dedicated activist. She uses her ties in fashion and international success to promote causes she believes in. She brings clothing and style into the causes to create a larger base for assistance.

Recently, the magazine, Nylon, did an interview with Elettra and Shalom Harlow about their efforts to use ec0-friendly cloth. They also discuss their attempts to get big name designers to convert and contribute.

(Click on image to see video)

Elettra also had an interview in InStyle magazine in regards to her efforts with

and

Some of the things they ask for can be pricey for the average human, but you can also make smaller donations.

Eco-friendly Hair Dye

My cousin Jeffrey asked me yesterday if I knew of any types of less-harmful hair dyes available to the public. I didn't know. So, thanks to the wonderful world of GOOGLE I found it.

I dye my hair. I like to. I like to keep everyone, as well as myself, on their toes. Also, I'm not trying to look like a grandma at 24. SOOOOOO:

Here are some pages that might help us out!

The First is

http://www.ecocolors.net

Based out of California, this site provides 24 permanent colors and they aren't too pricey. Considering they're available online, they are permanent and eco-friendly.
The site is easy to navigate and shows color comparisons.
If anyone has used this site or the products, please contact me at shania_jr28@hotmail.com

The next site I came to was Naturcolor

http://www.naturcolor.com/naturcolor/index.htm

Based out of Napa California, they also offer many color choices and show the different hair samples on the page. They don't have as much info on their web site, but the contact information is clearer than day.

Then there is
Rainbow Research Inc.

http://www.rainbowresearch.com/index.php

They offer lots of body care goods, and their colors are all henna based. They seem to have a wide variety, but I think henna can sometimes get really messy, so be aware and make sure you wipe it off your skin when you apply.

Otherwise, you'll come out completely one color.

There were a couple of other resources in Italy, but since I haven't studied any Italian, I can't make any suggestions... other than here are the pages.

http://www.toccomagico.it/index.php

http://www.herb.it/

Let me know if you have tried any of these, I will be looking into attempting to use at least one of the sites to order some DYE.
Hopefully we'll all look eco-hot not a hot mess.

Welcome

Hello and welcome.
This blog is the beginning of a project that I hope will be on a much larger scale.
I am setting this up to connect everyone with causes and places to find alternative living styles (eco-friendly, green, safer, more cognizant, etc.).
I want to be a connector to sites that not only inform but that are stylish and cool in most people's eyes.

Let's rid of the narcissistic endeavors and branch into a world of living together, not ignoring fashion, film, pop culture and general living.

ENJOY!
